Lionel Messi: New Barcelona president vows to keep star
Barcelona president Joan Laporta is on the lookout for reinforcements ahead of the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants are primed to spend as they look to boost Ronald Koeman’s chances of winning silverware. But, with the club’s finances impacted by the coronavirus crisis, Express Sport will now take a look at four free agents who would save the La Liga giants millions.
Barcelona appear to be in pole position to sign Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum.
The Netherlands international like many of his team-mates over at Anfield, has struggled for consistency this term.
But Koeman would love to land his compatriot, who he previously managed at international level.
Wijnaldum would bring both energy and experience to Barcelona’s midfield, having won the Premier League and Champions League during his time on Merseyside.

A second free agent in the orbit of Barcelona is Memphis Depay.
Everybody wrote off the Netherlands international when he left Manchester United under a cloud in 2017, having struggled under both Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal.
But Depay has bounced back to become a vital player for Lyon in Ligue 1.
He’s scored 14 goals in the league this term, while registering nine assists.
And, like Wijnaldum, he’s another Dutchman whose contract is winding down and who previously played under Koeman at international level.
