Steve Bruce leaves position as Newcastle head coach
Newcastle hope to entice Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars to join their revolution and could sensationally quadruple his salary to tempt him, according to reports. The Magpies’ new owners are widely expected to appoint a new director of football to oversee the sporting operation.
A consortium fronted by Amanda Staveley and 80 per cent backed by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia completed the eye-watering £305million takeover of the club earlier this month.
The long-awaited purchase saw the hugely unpopular Mike Ashley ousted from his role as owner.
Staveley, who owns a 10 per cent share in the club, has already made huge promises to fans, telling them that ‘world-class’ players will be targeted in the coming transfer windows.
She also hopes to make vast improvements to the training ground, which was left largely untouched during the Ashley era.
But to make those big ambitions a reality, Newcastle hope to appoint a figure to oversee the football operation.

Ajax chief and former Arsenal winger Overmars has been suggested. Under the Dutchman, the Eredivisie side have frequently remained in the Champions League despite selling over £700m worth of talent.
They have also been famed for their ability to develop players. Staveley has insisted that local talent will be given an opportunity in the Newcastle first team.
According to the Mirror, Overmars expects his £620,000 salary in the Netherlands to be quadrupled in Tyneside. It would see him earn just under £2.5m per year to oversee incredible changes at St James’ Park.
Newcastle are also searching for a new manager after parting ways with Steve Bruce last week.
Bruce, viewed by supporters as a symbol of the controversial Ashley era, was allowed to oversee his 1,000th game in management but lost 3-2 against Tottenham.

"We have great ambitions — I hope it’s going to be a game changer for Newcastle United.
"But if you don’t put the infrastructure around that world-class player and you don’t have a team that can play with him, you’ll get nowhere."
She added: "The training ground is really awful and needs a huge amount of investment. Luckily, that is one area we are not restricted by Financial Fair Play.
