forward Gabriel Jesus is set to be assessed by the club's medical team after picking up a knock in Sunday's impressive victory over Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium. The Brazilian striker was selected to start the match but required treatment after he was caught by a flailing elbow from Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas shortly after half-time.

His concerned Arsenal team-mates immediately called for the physio, who came to Jesus' aid before he eventually managed to climb back to his feet. The Gunners will now be sweating over his availability for Thursday's trip to Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League, with further tests having already been scheduled for this week.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta confirmed after the full-time whistle against Liverpool that Jesus will be assessed before the north Londoners return to action, but conceded that he was unaware of the severity of any injury that may have resulted from the 25-year-old's collision with Tsimikas.

"I don’t know, I haven’t been with the doctor yet but I’m sure they’re checking him," Arteta told reporters when asked for an update on Jesus' condition. "He seemed OK after the game. I don’t actually know what happened, but we will obviously assess how he is."

It seems likely that Jesus will be rested for Thursday's game against Bodo/Glimt even if he is passed fit to play in Arsenal's next Europa League group stage outing. Eddie Nketiah may be given the chance to lead the line for the Gunners in order to keep Jesus fresh ahead of this weekend's Premier League meeting with Leeds United at Elland Road.

Jesus has played a crucial role in establishing Arsenal as early title contenders since joining the club from Manchester City on a permanent deal over the summer. He has already chipped in with five league goals and looks set to keep providing the goods in attack as Arsenal look to avoid slipping away from the top of the table over the coming weeks and months.

The man himself recently insisted that he has thoroughly enjoyed his start to life at Arsenal, where he has managed to emerge as a hugely important cog in the machine after spending most of his time at City as a back-up option.

"It is different here at Arsenal," Jesus told ESPN last month. "The football is different, different players, different ways to play. At City, it was different.

"The striker didn't touch the ball that much, you see this by watching the games. And, when it was time to touch the ball, it was not the striker, because [Pep Guardiola] ended up putting a midfielder to come closer. OK, fine. So, I decided to change."
