Jake Humphrey to leave BT Sport as Warner Bros Discovery revamp swings into action

BT Sport will rebrand as TNT Sports this summer, but Jack Humphrey won't be part of it.

Jake Humphrey will leave BT Sport this summer after a decade with the channel, the presenter has announced. And as the network prepares to rebrand as TNT Sports, speculation that Laura Woods is set to take on the leading anchor role continues to grow.

Humphrey has spent the last 10 years presenting BT Sport's live and coverage but the 44-year-old will not be part of the team that takes the subscription sports channel into a new era.

Announcing his departure on Twitter, Humphrey said: "After 10 wonderful years, I am stepping back from BT. As a football fan, hosting Premier League matches, FA Cup games and European Finals has meant the world to me. It has been my dream job.

"I’ve loved being a very small part of a world-class production team. I also feel blessed to have shared the screen with legends of the game and incredible broadcasters, who have become friends. Thank you all."

“A decade on, Whisper now has hundreds of team members who I want to work with more, and the impact of High Performance amazes me daily. I’m also not ashamed to say I remain hugely ambitious.

"Stepping back from BT will allow me space to pursue other projects and fulfil other ambitions. I’m excited. To everyone that’s watched and commented, both good and bad (!), thank you! It’s been a blast…”

US-headquartered Warner Bros Discovery and BT Group announced last year that they would be heading into a joint venture called TNT Sports that will eventually merge the BT Sport and Eurosport channels into one unified brand. Warner Bros Discovery is a multinational corporation that owns major television brands including CNN and HBO.

TNT Sports is already a household name in Latin America, where it is the home of top-flight domestic and European football. But the brand will launch in the UK and Ireland this July, ahead of the start of the 2023/24 season.

Upon making the announcement, Andrew Georgiou, managing director of WBD Sports Europe, said: “The TNT Sports name is already synonymous with premium live sports in a number of countries around the world and a further sign of the global scale and expertise that WBD brings to the partnership with BT.”

TalkSPORT presenter Woods has reportedly already held talks about a potential new role with TNT Sports, who are confident of acquiring the popular 35-year-old's signature. Her stock in sports broadcasting has continued to rise with success covering NFL and the Qatar World Cup for ITV demonstrating her versatility.
