Man Utd make decision on copying Liverpool transfer as '£112m double deal imminent'

Manchester United were considering replicating Liverpool's blockbuster transfer as Erik ten Hag searched for a new striker.

won't replicate 2022 transfer strategy after reportedly opting against a move for Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos. The Red Devils have beaten to the signing of Atalanta's Rasmus Hojlund, expected to join this week in a £72million deal.

Erik ten Hag entered the summer transfer window prioritising a new striker after over-relying on Marcus Rashford for goals in his maiden season.

And after splashing a combined £107m to recruit Mason Mount from Chelsea and Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana, he now looks set to land his frontman.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Ramos featured on Ten Hag's striker shortlist after a stellar season along with other linked stars like Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen.

Liverpool took a similar path last year, sealing a club-record £85m transfer for Darwin Nunez after an impressive campaign for the Eagles.

And now Ramos is reportedly on the verge of a move to PSG after the Ligue 1 champions missed out on Hojlund.

Romano claims PSG are closing in on agreeing a £69m swoop for the 22-year-old after agreeing personal terms on a contract until 2028.

And Ramos is set to be one-half of a blockbuster double deal, with Ousmane Dembele also on his way to the Parc des Princes.

PSG are said to have triggered a £43m clause in his Barcelona contract to add more firepower to Luis Enrique's attack after Marco Asensio's arrival from Real Madrid.

Romano adds that PSG plan to have Ramos and Dembele through the door by the end of the week, completing the £112m double deal in time for their season opener against Lorient.

United have parted ways with a similar fee for Hojlund, 20, who Ten Hag will likely believe has more potential to spearhead his attack for years to come.

The Denmark international is expected to be officially unveiled this week and will be in line for his debut in United's Premier League opener against Wolves on August 14.

Ten Hag reportedly wants two new strikers this season as he looks to propel United from top-four challengers to title contenders.

After Hojlund, the M16 giants will unlikely facilitate another big-money addition, especially with Fred and Donny van de Beek's likely exits allegedly set to launch a pursuit of Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat.

Mason Greenwood could return to the fray after United their investigation into his future at Old Trafford.

Or Ten Hag could once again utilise the free agent and loan markets after his January capture of Wout Weghorst.
