Kobbie Mainoo could be forced to wait for a new Man United bumper deal despite his England heroics this week.

are in no rush to extend contract at Old Trafford, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s current attention placed on the Red Devils’ transfer plans. Mainoo has enjoyed a breakout campaign for Erik ten Hag’s side this season, with United said to be keen to tie him down to a long-term deal.

It’s been a blink-and-you-miss-it rise to stardom for Mainoo, who at the beginning of the season was a relatively unknown teenager breaking into the United ranks. Fast forward just over six months and the Stockport-born starlet is considered one of the best up-and-coming talents in the Premier League, with calls for him to start in midfield for England at the upcoming European Championships.

As a result of his stellar form, plans to extend the midfield gem’s contract had been drawn up, with the Manchester Evening News reporting talks have already got underway. However, the same report suggests that there is a relaxed approach being adopted for negotiations, with the Old Trafford outfit in no rush to put pen to paper on fresh terms.

That’s because Mainoo is already under contract until the end of the 2027/28 campaign, having signed an extension with United as recently as last season. It means Ratcliffe and co. can focus on potential transfer business instead, as the INEOS group gears up for their first summer window in charge.

United are reported to be keeping a close eye on Everton duo Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana, with the three-time European champions eyeing up a double swoop. Everton aren’t said to be desperate to sell their best players though and given the pair are under contract at Goodison Park until 2027, it’s likely United will have to stump up the cash if they wish to land both Branthwaite and Onana this summer.

Elsewhere, The Telegraph have claimed that United are also focusing efforts on two positions, mainly in an attempt to sign cover for their existing starters. The record Premier League champions are mooted to be interested in a striker to support Rasmus Hojlund, along with a right-back to provide competition for Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Whereas for outgoings, Casemiro is one name who is being tipped to depart the club, despite the Brazil international still boasting just under two and a half years left on his existing deal. What’s more, if the £70million man does end up leaving the record English champions this summer, it could mean an extra midfielder is added to United’s transfer wishlist.
