has admitted he wants to see play in a better team amid his struggles in latest disastrous season. The 26-year-old has failed to build on a career-best 2022/23 campaign, sparking suggestions that he should look to reignite his form away from his boyhood club.

Rashford scored 30 goals in all competitions last term, helping Erik ten Hag finish third in the Premier League and end United's six-year trophy drought with the FA Cup.

He was rewarded with a bumper new contract worth £300,000-a-week last summer, signing on the dotted line until 2028.

But the Red Devils have regressed under Ten Hag this season. Naturally, as has Rashford, scoring just eight times in 39 appearances.

The England international has cut a frustrated figure throughout most of the campaign, drawing criticism for his body language and questions over his commitment to the cause.

Off-field issues like his public party after a 3-0 Manchester derby defeat and his Belfast bender before missing training the next morning have fractured relationships with some sections of United's global fanbase.

And Schweinsteiger has called on Rashford to take his future into his own hands, backing the United No. 10 to find new levels to his game at another club.

"I would love to see him [Marcus Rashford] in a better team, where he gets the balls at the right moment," Schweinsteiger told Gary Neville for The Overlap.

"I would love to see that because in the years past, you didn't really see that, so if he would play for a different team, maybe he would also increase his level a little bit more.

"He's still the player who can decide the games, but he doesn't show it too many times because maybe inside he's a little bit frustrated.

"First, he has to understand he can also be the example – you can handle frustration differently – but someone needs to tell him and speak with him. It has to come from him, that's very important.

"Sometimes you have these coaches who tell you, stay left, stay right, but you need to understand, if you play for Pep Guardiola, you need to understand what he wants and then you have to do it.

"You cannot just go to someone and say, 'Hey, run faster', you need to help him, and he needs to understand why."

Rashford showcased what he was capable of in a more successful team last season and isn't thought to be considering his future at Old Trafford.

He will hope the upcoming Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS era marks the start of an uprise trajectory again rather than another false dawn.
