West Brom are closing in on appointing Chris Hughton as their new boss
Roberto Di Matteo was sacked on Monday less than 24 hours after a 3-0 defeat at Manchester City a defeat which left them just two points clear of the relegation zone.
And former Newcastle manager Chris Hughton is seen as the ideal candidate to lift West Brom out of the relegation scrap.
First-team coach Michael Appleton, 35, who took over from Di Matteo on Monday, had emerged as the shock contender yesterday.
However, it now seems The Baggies will opt for Hughton, who was sacked by Newcastle in December.
Roy Hodgson and Sam Allardyce have also been linked with the job.
