Robbie Savage was a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing
The ex-Welsh international, now a popular TV pundit, made the bizarre offer last night through his Twitter account.
And the 37-year-old said playing for the Gers in the Third Division would be a “piece of p***”, adding that he had already been in touch with the club’s new chief executive, Charles Green.
Within minutes, dozens of Light Blues fans were encouraging the one-time Leicester City man – once dubbed the “dirtiest player in Britain” – to head north ahead of Sunday’s Ramsdens Cup clash at Brechin.
Savage said on Twitter: “If Rangers are struggling for players I would come out of retirement and play for nothing. I could do a job in Scot div 3!
Very classy from Robbie Savage to offer his services to Rangers for completely free

“It would be a privilege to play for a great club. Only retired a year ago, as fit now and would play for free.”
And he urged Ally McCoist to pick the phone and get in touch if he was interested in getting the player, who once starred in the same Manchester United youth team as David Beckham, on board.
Savage, booked 89 times in the Premier League, said: “You think I’m joking, I’m serious! I’ve sent a text to Charles Green already to ask Ally if he needs any help.”
One Ibrox fan, Jamie Thomas, said: “Very classy from Robbie Savage to offer his services to Rangers for completely free.”
And Colin Millar added: “Possible Rangers central midfield of Robbie Savage and Ian Black? The saying no one likes us we do not care has never seemed so apt.”
