But the 32-year-old has pleaded with Mourinho to give him another chance at Old Trafford and appears not to have given up hope of a stunning return.
"I'm trying to keep myself fit for the situation in which I am needed," Schweinsteiger said.
"Hopefully, I will be given a chance.

"I still feel fit at 32 and certainly want to play more years at the top level, and of course I want to win things.
"We won the FA Cup last year and that was also one of my aims.
"Of course it would be great to play for Manchester United in the Premier League and perhaps win it.
"If I am needed, I will give everything. I am ready.

Schweinsteiger is yet to play a competitive match this campaign after making 38 appearances for club and country last season.
He was bought by former boss Louis van Gaal from Bayern Munich for £6.5million in 2015 and last played for United in March.
