And Portuguese newspaper Record say the transfer move could go through as Carvalho wants to join the Gunners.
Palmeri tweeted this morning: “Arsenal are in talks with Sporting for William Carvalho.”
Arsene Wenger’s men came close to signing the Portugal international, 25, last year only for him to stay at Sporting.
Now that could all change and crucial to any deal is Carvalho’s agent Pere Guardiola, the brother of Manchester City boss Pep.
Carvalho’s preference is to move to Arsenal. He’s been a big fan of the club since he was a youngster and wears No.14 on his back because Thierry Henry was his idol.

But the Gunners aren’t the only club interested.
Newcastle have also lodged an enquiry but Arsenal have the greater financial clout to do a deal.
Carvalho is under contract until 2020 and has a £40million release clause in his contract.
Interested parties are likely to have to pay a fee of around £27m to force Sporting into a sale this summer.
