Steve Nicol on Liverpool star Mohamed Salah
The Belgian has the most assists in the league this season with 15 but has only scored eight goals for Manchester City.
And Nicol says that is the reason Salah beat De Bruyne to the award.
“I think at the start of the season we thought Salah would kind of dry up a little bit,” Nicol said.

Nicol says the pure weight of goals Mohamed Salah has scored meant he deserved the award
“And for me he does deserve it because the game is about goals.
“As great a player as Kevin De Bruyne is, Salah from the first minute of the season to right now, we’ve still got a bit to go, all this guy’s done is put the ball in the back of the net.
“So the game’s about goals, and the man that scores the most should get the award.”
