Masters caddie earns life-changing money after stepping in to help Ryder Cup star

Tommy Fleetwood impressed at last week's Masters, finishing tied-third at Augusta National and earning £863,000 for his efforts.

Tommy Fleetwood helped bank local Augusta National caddie Gray Moore a cool payout, after the Englishman finished in a tie for third at last week’s Masters. Fleetwood put in his best Masters performance to date, finishing alongside Collin Morikawa and Max Homa at four-under-par for the week.

Fleetwood did so in differing circumstances, having headed to Augusta without his long-time caddie Ian Finnis. This saw the European Ryder Cup star turn to local expert Moore, who helped guide Fleetwood to an impressive top-five finish.

The successful week was rewarded with a hefty payout for the 33-year-old, who earned £835,109 ($1.04m) for his tied-third finish. And with the usual going rate for PGA Tour caddies around the eight percent mark, Moore can expect a fee of £66,808 ($83,200) for his efforts.

Fleetwood is no stranger to the local caddie’s company, having revealed earlier in the week that he had played practice rounds with Moore when arriving at Augusta on debut back in 2017. Unsurprisingly, the Englishman was full of praise for his stand-in sidekick during a successful week.

I've known Gray since the first time I came here, and I asked him to do it when I knew I needed a caddie, and I thought he'd be perfect,” Fleetwood commented. “Just like a wonderful human being. I've loved every second out here with him.”

The man Fleetwood and the rest of the field were unable to chase down was world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who won his second green jacket on Sunday. The American carded a superb four-under-par 68 in the final round, to win the event by four shots ahead of debutant Scottie Scheffler.

Despite failing to get his hands on his maiden major championship title, Fleetwood was full of optimism after a career-best Augusta performance. I think overall throughout the week, I made so few bogeys -- I had a bogey-free round today, which is amazing, and I made so few bogeys throughout the week, considering the conditions, which is such a positive,” he commented.

“I did so many good things. I think I look back on it and scorable holes probably cost me. I didn't really birdie the par-5s that much, so I'll sort of look back on that and think I could have done better there. But overall I had a beautiful day today. I really enjoyed being out there. It's Masters Sunday, and I had a bogey-free round, so there's not much to complain about.”
