star Maverick McNealy has amassed just £7million in career earnings but stands to inherit a £1billion fortune which will see him become the second-richest golfer of all time, behind only . The 28-year-old American turned professional in 2017 and is still awaiting his first tournament win, but can blow the likes of CEO Greg Norman away with his future net worth.

Norman (£321m) currently has the second-highest estimated value in golf per CelebrityNetWorth but McNealy can surpass the Saudi golf chief even though the world No. 100 will share his inheritance with his three golfing brothers Dakota, Colt and Scout.

McNealy has already equalled Woods’ 18-hole record at Stanford, along with Cameron Wilson, before earning his PGA Tour card. He shot up to a career-high ranking of 57 last year and secured two runner-up finishes, but has never played The Masters.

He claimed that his father Scott, who co-founded and then sold technology company Sun Microsystems to Oracle for £5.8bn in 2010, ensured that his sons earned their own way in life and didn’t give them pocket money despite his vast fortune.

"My brothers and I never got an allowance,” McNealy said. “And we were told that once we graduated from college, we’d have one summer to find a job and then we’d be on our own. My dad would’ve made me pay rent to live at home after school - I’m not kidding!

"My dad often tells me the most well-funded start-ups always fail, and that a short cash runway lights a fire under your rear that’s hard to emulate. I don’t judge my success in golf by how much money I’ve made; I judge it by my effort and commitment."

Away from golf, McNealy is an avid pilot and got his flying license a year ago. He showed off his flying skills in a video for the PGA Tour in October and described the day that he received his credentials as one of the “most rewarding” moments of his life.

He wrote on Instagram: “I’m a pilot!! Still processing it all, but without a doubt one of the most rewarding things I’ve done in my life. Luke and Jake, thank you for all you’ve taught me on the ground and in the air - I know it’ll be a lifetime of learning.”

The Management Science and Engineering college graduate and his sponsors are also donating £16 to his dad’s new non-profit organisation, Curriki, for each birdie he makes. The free online education service has been up and running since 2004 and continues to benefit from the family’s estimated £800m net worth.
