NBA star Jeremy Sochan sends fans wild with dreadful free-throw attempt

The rookie who grew up in England did not show himself in good light with an absolutely bizarre shooting technique that doesn't exactly look like will stick

Jeremy Sochan has sent NBA fans absolutely wild with his bizarre free-throw shooting technique. The San Antonio Spurs rookie has struggled from the line this season, shooting just 42% - way below the league's average of 78%, making him one of the worst in the league in that category. Sochan does not have a particurly unusual jumpshot, but has now made an attempt to alter his free throws - shooting them with one hand.

Sochan, who grew up in England and spent his youth in Milton Keynes and Southampton, became the first British player in almost two decades to be drafted as a top ten pick in the NBA after being selected by the Spurs.

His game, predicted on being a tough defender, has drawn comparisons to Dennis Rodman - who also played for the Spurs and wore the number 10 jersey. This is something that Sochan seems particularly proud of, even dying his hair green like Rodman had done during his time with the Spurs.

And although he's drawing comparisons to Rodman's good qualities, many are now pointing out their similarities with their awkward free throw shooting - something that the Hall of Famer also struggled with.

One Spurs fan wrote: "Something oddly soothing about a Spurs player with green hair wearing number 10 taking ridiculously bad free throws." Whilst another added: "He want to be Dennis Rodman so bad."

If Sochan is going to thrive in the NBA, he'll need to vastly improve on his free throw shooting - with teams looking to foul him intentionally should he continue to shoot so poorly.

It does appear that the rookie has head coach Gregg Popovich's trust though, playing 24 minutes per game so far this season.

Sochan's one-handed free throws did not go well in the win over the Houston Rockets, but he may try out a few different techniques until he finds one he's comfortable with.

NBA legend Rick Barry famously shot free-throws underhanded - and went on to shoot a league-leading 89% - retiring with the best percentage of all-time in 1980.
