World Snooker Championship star 'hates watching snooker' and prefers going to pub

Snooker legend Stephen Hendry spoke with several players ahead of the World Snooker Championship.

star Tom Ford has revealed that he ‘hates’ watching the sport and has very little interest in watching tournaments unfold once he has been eliminated. Instead, the 40-year-old would rather head to the pub than watch how his colleagues get on.

Ford has featured regularly in qualifying at World Snooker Championships over the last 20 years, and his resilience was rewarded last week when he secured his first ever first-round victory at the Crucible with a win over Ricky Walden.

The world No. 14 then bowed out of the competition when he was comfortably beaten 13-7 by , and Ford is unlikely to watch how the remainder of the event unfolds.

Speaking to Stephen Hendry on his YouTube channel, Ford revealed that he does not enjoy watching snooker and would rather tune into football or head to the pub once he has been knocked out of competitions.

Asked by Hendry whether he thought snooker was a good sport to watch, Ford replied: “I can’t stand watching the game. I hate watching the game. If I get beat, you’ll find me in the pub.

“It’s just one of them, even as a kid I just never enjoyed watching the game, I don’t know if that was as Willie Thorne and Cliff Thorbun put me off as I first came here but I’ve never been one for watching the game.

“Even when a couple of my friends have been playing, I may watch the last ten or 15 minutes of it but it’s horrible to say but I find the game boring. I can’t sit there and watch a full game, I’m sat there thinking ‘I just want to put the football on’ or something like that, just get me away from it all.”

is one of the favourites to lift the title in the Crucible, though Ford did raise questions about the Rocket’s inconsistency when speaking to Hendry. Asked if he believes O’Sullivan is the toughest opponent that he has faced, Ford said: “I disagree because sometimes you don’t know what you’re getting with Ronnie. He’s got that aura about him that makes him 21, 28 points better anyway just turning up.

“If Ronnie is on fire then I strongly agree, but if he’s not on fire that day then you still might get a few chances here and there.”
