Novak Djokovic hailed 'best on the planet' as Rusedski makes Roger Federer prediction

GREG RUSEDSKI hailed the ‘world’s best player’ Novak Djokovic after he breezed past Alexander Zverev to reach the Shanghai Masters final.

Djokovic says playing with Federer has been a ‘tennis dream’

Djokovic claimed a one-sided semi-final 6-2, 6-1 in just one hour, one minute and will also take Roger Federer’s No 2 spot in the world rankings when they are updated on Monday.

The Serb has now won an incredible 30 of his last 32 matches.

And after watching him demolish another opponent, former US Open finalist Rusedski said: “He was sensational, about as good as it gets.”

Djokovic will go into the final with three Shanghai Masters titles to his name already - a joint record with Britain’s Andy Murray.

The 31-year-old will play the winner of the clash between reigning champion Federer  and Borna Coric.

Rusedski is convinced the two giants of the game will go head-to-head in the competition’s showpiece.

But the former British number one also thinks Djokovic will be almost impossible to beat.

He added: “I expect us to get the blockbuster final, with Djokovic and Federer.

“But the bad news for Roger Federer is if he gets there, Djokovic has never lost in the final at Shanghai.

“Novak to me looks like the best player on the planet and he looks like the guy who is dominating men’s tennis.

“Today his movement, everything, was amazing. Whether he had to play defensively or offensively, everything was functioning.

“And his mind was so serene from start to finish.”

Djokovic holds the advantage over Federer in the head-to-head record, with 24 wins to Federer’s 22.

And the new world No 2 has an excellent record in 2018, with 40 wins to just ten defeats on the ATP tour.

Federer’s stats this year are equally impressive, though. He has recorded 36 victories and only six losses.
