Gemma Arterton is more choosy about her roles
HAVING enjoyed a meteoric rise to fame, screen beauty Gemma Arterton now insists she is becoming more choosy about her roles.
The 24-year-old, who became a household name overnight after her debut in St Trinian’s in 2007, has been in demand ever since, most recently starring in Stephen Frears’s flick Tamara Drewe.
Recalling her initial career after leaving drama school Rada she explains: “I said ‘yes, yes, yes’ to every job without thinking about it.
“You are grateful to be considered and don’t want to seem rude by turning them down. We Brits tend to think like that.”
Arterton believes 2010 has marked a turning point for selecting the roles she really wants to play.
“This year I have been able to think about what I want,” she adds. “Now I have learned that the only power I have as an actress is the power of choice.
“I’m taking my time and reading scripts thoroughly and those films I did, like Tamara Drewe, have actually transformed my career.
“It’s going to be more eclectic, intriguing films rather than all-out action movies.”
