Millions can now unlock some of the fastest broadband speeds in the UK at a new low price. Virgin Media has slashed the cost of its pioneering Gig1 broadband plan, which offers download speeds of 1,130Mbps – some 22x faster than the national average, to just £50.99 a month. Until now, Virgin Media charged £62 a month – so you'll be saving a whopping £198 over the course of an 18-month contract. Better yet, by signing up to a new contract term, you'll be guaranteed to swerve .

Unlock some of the fastest home broadband speeds available in this country ...for the lowest price yet. For £45 a month, you'll see download speeds of 1,130Mbps, which is around 22x faster than the average broadband connection in the UK. You'll be able to stream boxsets in 4K, make video calls and download updates without seeing a single loading screen.

Following its colossal upgrade project, Virgin Media has now rolled out its Gig1 bundle to all 15.5 million customers. As such, Gig1 is now the most widely-available gigabit-capable connection in the UK, with BT-owned Openreach, which supplies the broadband infrastructure for a number of brands including BT, EE, Sky, Plusnet and more, only managing to connect some five million to these speeds. Openreach plans to reach 25 million premises by December 2026.

Download speeds of around 1,000Mbps enable customers to download feature-length movies in seconds, back-up their photos to the cloud, and join video calls without a stutter. In busy households, with multiple people streaming music and video, making video calls, downloading software updates, and juggling dozens of smart lightbulbs, thermostats, smart speakers and security cameras and doorbells... the huge bandwidth available with gigabit-capable internet means no device will see slowdowns.

It also future-proof customers for the next generation of technology, including 8K video quality streaming, playing blockbuster video games from the cloud with services like Microsoft xCloud and Google Stadia, higher quality music streaming – like Apple Music's Lossless format or Amazon Music HD, and more.

To celebrate the completion of its Gig1 roll-out to all 15.5 million customers, Virgin Media has dropped the price for the first time. The £198 discount will only be available until Sunday February 6, 2022.

For comparison, BT charges £54.99 a month for its fastest full-fibre speeds, which top-out at a slightly slower 900Mbps, compared to the 1,130Mbps average download speeds available from Virgin Media. BT is currently offering a Homebuyers' Offer (you don't have to have recently bought a house to qualify for the deal), which sees the first three bills of your new contract slashes in half. You'll only pay £27.49 a month at the start of your new 24-month contract – a ludicrously low price. However, after that, your monthly bills will be higher than those with Virgin Media's Gig1 (£50.99 compared with £54.99).

Virgin Media's deal also comes with a shorter minimum contract term, which is usually better. That means you'll be able to renegotiate your terms much sooner and shop around with other providers to unlock faster speeds or better prices. In two years, there will be more providers with access to gigabit-capable connections, so prices should come down.

If you're working from home for the foreseeable future or live in a busy household with multiple people watching Netflix, streaming music, making calls, and downloading software updates to their devices ...there's never been a better time to test out the latest generation of broadband and take advantage of Virgin Media's sale.
