In 1989, Back to the Future Part II predicted 2015 would be the year we all got automatically adjusting jackets and hoverboards.

Unfortunately – despite it already being late June – we have yet to see any of this high tech gadgetry hit the shelves.

Until now.

Lexus this morning unveiled a video featuring a futuristic, floating skateboard.

Lexus claims its hoverboard has been in the works for almost two years

Best of all, the luxury car manufacturer claims the YouTube clip is not a publicity stunt.

The firm claims the hoverboard concept has been in the works for almost two years.

Lexus appears to be using a similar system to Hendo – which produced a skateboard which floated by using magnets.

Classic 1989 hit Back to the Future Part II predicted the existence of hoverboards by 2015

The Hendo Hoverboard – which carried a breath-taking price tag of $10,000, some £6,000 – employed four disc-shaped engines tot generate a special magnetic field

Unfortunately, this meant the Hendo board would only work on a metallic platform.

However – the Lexus hoverbaord appears to be able to float over a range of surfaces.

The firm has yet to release a price or release date for the board, but fingers crossed it will arrive before Marty McFly in October.
