An Amazon Alexa gave a courtroom a full timeline of the cruel murder of a woman by her husband. Daniel White, 36, has been jailed for life for the killing of his wife Angie, 45, after he pleaded guilty to slitting her throat.

The homeware device was used by investigators to piece together Angie's final moments.

After a row over WhatsApp, the abuser kicked open his wife's locked bedroom door in Swansea, before strangling her. He then went downstairs to grab a Stanley knife, which he used to cut her throat.

He phoned 999 about three hours later, saying: "She's in the house, she's dead. I've strangled her and cut her throat. She's dead.

"We argued and she locked the door and said she wanted me out.

"All I wanted to do was take my stuff and leave. I just shut her up, I strangled her, I ran downstairs, and I cut her throat to make sure she was dead."

It can now be revealed that Mr White had a long history of domestic violence. The cowardly killer refused to face Angie's family in court today, and has been jailed for life with a minimum of 20 years and 10 months.

The court was told that through voice commands on the couple's Alexa device that had been stored on the cloud, investigators could put together a timeline of the 45-year-old's murder.

At 3.03am on October 22 last year, Angie had asked the device to turn the volume down. Shortly afterwards, White told the device "Alexa stop" at 3.16am. Chillingly, he turned the device on in the living room and sounds out of breath in the recordings - during the moment at which prosecutors said he was fetching the knife after strangling his wife.

He then returns to the bedroom at 3.18am where he told Alexa to "turn on the electric light" before telling it "Alexa, turn off the TV" a minute later.

Using this information, officers could establish there was a a 13-minute window in which White burst through the door, strangled Angie, and finally cut her throat. At the time, neighbours heard screaming and shouting coming from the home. White eventually fled the scene in his wife's car.

Speaking afterwards, Angie's family said: "Angie was a much-loved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and auntie. Nothing can bring our beloved Angie back. We shall miss that silly giggle for evermore.

"Daniel White admitted his guilt but continued to use his manipulative behaviour to delay the outcome. He deliberately absences himself in what we see as his continuing attempts to control this situation and his cowardness in avoiding facing us and justice for what he did to Angie.

"We would welcome a review of what the relevant authorities did to monitor Daniel White to understand if this murder could have been prevented in order that others may be protected."

White had a history of domestic violence and was on licence at the time of the killing after receiving a 10-year extended sentence for rape and assault.

Sentencing, Judge Paul Thomas KC said: "You have a disgraceful history of assaulting women who have had the great misfortune to be in a relationship with you. When she was face to face with you, with your hands around her throat, she must have been absolutely terrified.

"After she probably lost consciousness, you didn't seek help for her, you went downstairs and got a knife. You took it into her bedroom in order to kill her, to finish her off. At one point you did so as an act of mercy - that, frankly, is ludicrous.

"You did so with a cowardly desire to dominate her and out of your uncontrollable rage. You did just that - savagely slit her throat knowing that would kill her."
