Police rush to school and put area on lockdown after grim discovery of man's body

Police descended on a street outside a school in Bolton after a man's body was found.

A man's body has been found near a school in Greater Manchester. Police descended on Chorley New Road outside St Joseph's RC High School in Horwich on Friday.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers were called to Chorley New Road, Horwich, Bolton, at around 7.20am this morning where the body of a man was found. Identification still needs to take place but it's not believed to suspicious."

In a message sent to parents, seen by the Manchester Evening News, the school said all its pupils were safe.

The message read: "Please note there has been a police incident near school this morning. Whilst you may have been concerned please be assured all students are presently safe and in end-of-year assemblies and there is no need to be alarmed.

"This incident is an isolated incident and has nothing to do with school, staff or pupils, but police vehicles are parked next to school whilst dealing with it. Thank you."

A police cordon stretches around a path leading from Chorley New Road outside the school to Cedar Avenue next to the Brazley Community Centre and St Elizabeth's Church.

A local resident told the Manchester Evening News there was an ambulance, a paramedic vehicle and four police vehicles at the scene.

The man, who has not been named by the publication, said: "We knew then something had obviously gone amiss, but to hear someone has died is very shocking.

"When anyone finds a body it's shocking and of course very sad."
