Two days of rampant storms more typical of winter are set to dominate Britain, the Met Office has warned.

Yellow weather warnings have been issued for Friday and Saturday with "unseasonably" high-speed winds, rain and thunder tipped to hit several regions around the UK.

Friday's weather warning activates from 7am until 7pm and will affect the South West of England and Wales while Saturday's warning comes into force from 9am until midnight and affects five regions in the Midlands and South of England.

The Met Office says damage to trees is likely, and transport delays could prevail in some regions.

Friday's weather warning

Friday's weather will consist of "strong winds" that are expected to bring "the potential for some disruption", states the weather forecaster.

In its warning for Friday, the Met Office states: "Strong winds will develop across southwest England early on Friday, extending northwards through the day to affect parts of Wales.

"Gusts of 35 to 45 mph are likely quite widely for a time, with gusts over 50 mph affecting some coasts and hills, mainly across Cornwall and west Wales.

"This is likely to lead to difficult driving conditions and some disruption given the unusual time of year for such winds. In addition, heavy rain will lead to standing water and spray on roads. Winds are expected to ease through the evening."

Meanwhile in Wales, Cardiff, Swansea, Newport and Pembrokeshire are likely to be caught by the weather.

Saturday's weather warning

The Met Office warns that Saturday will likely be an "unseasonably windy day" that will cause similar to disruption to Friday's weather.

On top of causing delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport, the weather is also expected to bring some loss of power in the affected regions.

"A blustery and showery day (with some thunder) will see winds gust widely to 40 mph, and locally up to 50 to 55 mph during the daytime.

"The strongest gusts are likely to occur mainly, but by no means exclusively, over hills and along the south coast. Some minor damage and travel disruption is likely. Winds will moderate later in the evening and overnight."

The East Midlands, West Midlands, East of England, London and South East England, South West England are the areas tipped to be affected by Saturday's warning.
