Saudi Arabia's incredible new £4bn skyscraper twice as high as world's tallest building

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince certainly cannot be accused of lacking vision, as he revolutionises his country.

Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud is going full steam ahead to turn his kingdom into the envy of the world.

The ambitious Crown Prince is currently ploughing a cool US$500 billion into the construction of a futuristic city known as the Line.

This smart city will stretch 170 kilometres from the epic mountains of NEOM across desert valleys to the beautiful Red Sea.

The architectural masterpiece will tower 500 meters above sea level, but will be just 200 meters wide.

The Line is intended to redefine the concept of urban development and what cities of the future will look like.

And as part of this attempt to revolutionise urban architecture, Mohammed bin Salman is set to build the world's tallest building in Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh.

At a height of 2 kilometres, the new skyscraper will be twice as high as the Burj Khalifa in Dubai - currently the world's tallest building.

Contractors estimate the cost for building the ginormous tower will be at least US$5 billion (£4bn).

The skyscraper will be half the length of a New York's Central Park and will have a whopping 133 square metre footprint.

By way of comparison, one of New York's tallest buildings - 4232 Park Avenue - has just a 28.5 square metre footprint.

The renowned architecture company Foster + Partners is reported to be working on the multibillion-dollar project.

The proposed record-breaking Riyadh skyscraper would be more than four times higher than Fosters’ current tallest scheme - the 423m-tall JPMorgan Chase World Headquarters at 270 Park Avenue, New York.

The Saudi capital’s current tallest structure is the 10-year-old PIF Tower in the city’s King Abdullah Financial District.

This stands at 385m and was designed by HOK and local architecture and engineering company Omrania.
