Sophie snubs the royal wedding snaps

PRINCE Edward and his wife Sophie refused to pose for official family photographs at the royal marriage of Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly.

At the centre of their decision was a row over the sale of the pictures.

Royal insiders said Edward and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex were also reluctant to be pictured with their little daughter Louise, who was at the wedding.

She was born with exotropia – an outward-turning eye.

Louise, who will turn five in November, still has an eye problem despite corrective surgery two years ago, said insiders.

The Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Camilla and Prince Harry were photographed outside St George’s Chapel, at Windsor Castle, along with several minor Royals and their children.

There has been unease over the bride and groom’s decision to sell photos and the inside story of their wedding to a downmarket magazine for a reported £500,000.

A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman refused to discuss the issue yesterday, insisting: “It’s a private family matter.”

At the wedding on Saturday, Harry, 23, is understood to have introduced his girlfriend Chelsy Davy to the Queen for the first time.

There is heightened speculation that the couple might be considering getting engaged soon.

Prince William’s girlfriend Kate Middleton also attended the ceremony, which was marred by heavy rain.

She represented the second-in-line to the throne, who was at a friend’s wedding in Kenya.

Kate and Chelsy’s presence had fuelled interest in the nuptials.

However, both were anxious not to upstage the Canadian bride – the daughter of a hairdresser and an electrical retailer – and discreetly avoided the big wave-off on the chapel steps.

The couple were whisked away in a horse-drawn carriage for a reception and dance at Frogmore House, Windsor, which has been loaned to them by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh Peter and Autumn exchanged vows in front of 300 guests.

Among the six bridesmaids was the groom’s sister Zara, whose boyfriend, England rugby player Mike Tindall, also attended.

Zara raised eyebrows with her unflattering off-the-shoulder dress, which revealed her tan lines.

The bride, a management consultant, is a former Roman Catholic. She has only recently been accepted into the Church of England.

If she had not changed churches then Peter, Princess Anne’s son and the 11th in line to the throne, would have had to give up his right to become king.

A wedding source said the bride had been “extremely nervous” before the ceremony and had been encouraged by the Queen.

The newlyweds, both 30, began their honeymoon yesterday.

They have not revealed where they are going, other than to say it is somewhere hot.
