Coronation Street star 'exits' Weatherfield after 24 years as actress lands new role
An ITV favourite is set to leave Weatherfield after 24 years next week - shortly after the actress addressed her future on the ITV soap.
Sue Cleaver addresses her Corrie absence
Coronation Street fans will bid farewell to Eileen Grimshaw as she takes some time away from Weatherfield. Eileen, played by Sue Cleaver since 2000, is set to swap the Cobbles for Thailand as she packs up in scenes airing next week.
Elsewhere in the conversation, the mum-of-one opened up about possible storylines for her character, sharing hopes that Eileen and Goerge walk down the aisle soon.
"I think that George and Eileen should have a big old-fashioned Corrie wedding. I want her to be happy because she has had too many horrible men," she told the Scottish presenter.

Last year, Sue revealed she was rushed into intensive care after undergoing emergancy surgery. She discussed her health battles on Kate Thornton’s White Wine, Question Time podcast, admitting she had a "challenging" six months.
She explained: "I have [had some real ups and downs with my health]. I am better now [but] I've had a pretty rubbish year. It started off with a hysterectomy and kind of went downhill from then, all out of the blue, weird stuff."
Sue continued: "I was poorly for a while so I've been off Corrie. Hardly been in sort of six/seven months, which is really strange. Really strange, but they've been wonderful and very supportive and I'm actually back in work tomorrow.”
Speaking about the surgery, the soap star said: “I went and found myself in A&E, and then an intensive care and that kind of took over really, so it’s been a challenging six months.”
