Man United boss Solskjaer praises Rashford’s ability
Manchester United may have eased the pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with three wins recently, but there’s no denying that the Red Devils remain very much a work in progress.
Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth was a reality check. A sign that Anthony Martial, perhaps, isn’t the one to lift this side to where they used to be. That Marcus Rashford, for all his obvious talent, remains too inconsistent for the time being.
Goals have been a problem for Manchester United this season. That was always going to be the case when you allow Romelu Lukaku to go and nobody comes in.
The club believe they’ll have to spend big to solve the problem. Mario Mandzukic may come in January but he’s not expected to drastically change things. Merely, he’ll act as foil to Rashford and Martial when they need a breather, or to be substituted.
But United can solve their goalscoring problems quicker than expected.
Edinson Cavani’s time at Paris Saint-Germain appears to be winding down. He’s returned from injury to find himself below Kylian Mbappe, and Mauro Icardi, in Thomas Tuchel’s pecking order.
United have long liked the Uruguay international.
They kept tabs on him when Sir Alex Ferguson was manager but in 2013, when the Scot left, David Moyes spent his time persuading Wayne Rooney to stay instead.
United chief Matt Judge even talked to Cavani’s brother about the forward touching down at Old Trafford.
When his brother got involved in the operation, however, the deal fell flat. His demands were too high, was what the club believed.

Many expect Cavani to move on at the end of the campaign but with the player on the fringes at PSG, he could leave earlier than expected.
Tuchel has admitted his forward is unhappy.
Speaking before the shock 2-1 defeat to Dijon, the German said: "He is not totally happy because he was injured for quite a while and could not help us.
"That's normal.
“He wants to help us and we need him, but he must fight for his place like everyone else.
