Chelsea: Frank Lampard says he is ‘frustrated’ after Saints draw
Frank Lampard has warned his Chelsea players of the pressures they will face when their Champions League campaign begins on Tuesday against Sevilla. Lampard has very different expectations for his Chelsea side this season in Europe after a baptism of fire in last year's competition.
The Blues scraped through the group stages last season before drawing Bayern Munich in the round of 16.
They lost 7-1 over two legs to the eventual European champions, but Lampard has a very different squad at his disposal this time around.
Experienced Brazilian Thiago Silva has now joined while players such as Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech also have pedigree on Europe's biggest stage.
And the young players such as Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Reece James now have valuable experience of the competition.
“The players that were here last year, and talking about the young players particularly in the Bayern Munich games because of the strong opposition, it would have been a learning curve for them," Lampard told Chelsea's official website.
“That’s the Champions League; it’s the top club competition in world football.
“They will be better for it; they will want to improve this year in that. We will see how much they have learned.
“Of the players we have brought in, some have more Champions League experience than others.
