Unai Emery made 12 signings at despite only being in charge of the club for 18 months. But after this summer's transfer window, there may only be two of the dozen remaining.

Emery had the unenviable task of replacing in the summer of 2018. He almost led the club to a return to the Champions League in his first campaign in charge.

The Gunners fluffed their lines at the final hurdle when attempting to finish in the Premier League top four. They were also humbled by Chelsea in the Europa League final.

If just one of those outcomes were different, then who knows what could have happened for Emery in north London? But six months later and replaced by .

Arteta has overseen a huge turnover of players in his first step into senior management. And he could soon whittle down the players Emery signed to just two.

Nicolas Pepe and Kieran Tierney both see their futures in doubt. Pepe is spending this season on loan at Nice in Ligue 1.

He still has over a year remaining on his Arsenal contract. But it looks unlikely that Arteta will see him as part of his plans moving forward.

Pepe's big wages could prove an issue in getting him off the books completely. Arsenal may have to accept a reduced fee for the Ivory Coast star in order to part ways.

Tierney, meanwhile, will understandably be frustrated with his lack of game time this season. The Scot has started just four Premier League games following the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Unai Emery and Gabriel Martinelli

Reports claim and sees him as an important squad member. But and a move back nearer his Glasgow home could be attractive.

Pepe and Tierney were two of the bigger signings Emery made. Pepe remains a club-record signing following his £72million switch from Lille in 2019, while Tierney signed from Celtic for around £25m.

Two of the more understated signings during Emery's era were Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba, although the latter did cost £27m. Saliba didn't play a single minute under the former boss and didn't make his debut until last August.

Both players have become crucial members of Arteta's team this season. And there is a real chance they could soon become the last two standing from Emery's 12 acquisitions.
