But the Red Devils may still have a task on their hands to persuade Bale to swap La Liga for a return to the Premier League.
Real are said to be open to letting Bale leave this summer but the Welsh player has already rejected a move to United.
United were desperate to land Bale when he left Tottenham in 2013.
And according to The Times, United's offer at that time was substantially better than Real's but Spurs were unable to convince Bale to make the move.
It is claimed that United not only offered more than the £85million Real paid, but were willing to throw Javier Hernandez into the deal, taking Emmanuel Adebayor back in exchange.

Bale opted for a change of scenery in Spain, but that move has not worked out entirely as planned.
And United will now try again to persuade Bale once more that his future lies in Manchester.
