Jose Mourinho to Manchester United: Cristiano Ronaldo advises Real Madrid on manager move
CRISTIANO RONALDO wants Zinedine Zidane to stay at Real Madrid, denting the club's reported pursuit of Manchester United managerial candidate Jose Mourinho.
United and Paris Saint-Germain are also in the running to land the former Chelsea boss, with the Red Devils favourites to secure a deal.
It was thought Ronaldo would welcome the chance to join up with Mourinho once again at Real and that Zidane would make way for the Portuguese in the summer.
Zidane has brought Real to the brink of the Champions League final and could also win the Spanish title in his first stint in charge of the club.
Real host Manchester City in their semi-final second leg on Wednesday with the tie finely balanced at 0-0.
They sit a point behind La Liga leaders Barcelona and second-placed Atletico Madrid with just two games remaining of the domestic season.
However, Dutchman Van Gaal may keep his job if the club win the FA Cup and finish in the top four.
It emerged yesterday that Mourinho would be less keen on managing United if they were in the Europa League next term - a fate that looks increasingly likely after their 1-1 draw with Leicester on Sunday.
The 53-year-old reportedly wants greater stability among the United hierarchy than was afforded him at Chelsea before signing off on a deal.
