The Leicester midfield enforcer has been on Antonio Conte’s radar for a while.
Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain expressed an interest, but the Blues have been heavily linked with the player who saw his hopes of lifting the European Championship trophy end at the hands of Portugal on Sunday night when France lost the final 1-0.
And according to the Daily Telegraph, Chelsea have begun talks over a deal for Kante.
It is suggested that while they could trigger the 25-year-old’s £20million release clause, they may have to pay more to lure him to Stamford Bridge.
Conte, who has already signed Michy Batshuayi from Marseille, will take charge of his first Chelsea training session on Wednesday.
The Italian will then give his first news conference as Blues boss on Thursday.
