Gomez broke straight into the Liverpool team but then suffered a major knee injury
Gomez was signed from Charlton last summer for around £3.5million and made seven appearances before tearing his ACL on international duty in October.
The 19-year-old has not played since and had been hoping to be in contention for selection when Liverpool start their Premier League season against Arsenal on August 14.
However, despite his knee recovering well, the defender has a problem in his Achilles tendon which is understood to have ruled him out of the season opener.
“Perseverance is stubbornness with a purpose.”
It means Jurgen Klopp is short of depth at the back having allowed Kolo Toure to leave after his contract expired.
