Lukaku is expected to move on this season with Chelsea and Manchester United considering move and Wenger was asked about his position on the striker and if he’d ever tried to sign him.
The Belgium international was sold by Chelsea to the Toffees back in 2014.
And Arsenal boss Wenger says the 24-year-old was never a realistic target when he was younger.
"If you look at his record and age it's quite impressive," Wenger said when asked about Lukaku.
"No one scored more goals in the Premier League at his age.
"We were not really after him because he was at Chelsea."

Wenger on Lukaku
Everton are keen to retain Lukaku and have slapped a £70million price tag on the striker's head in an attempt to stave off suitors.
His former club Chelsea are interested in a deal, while Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is also an admirer.
Mourinho is set to let Wayne Rooney leave this summer, with a return to Everton on the cards for the England international.
Wenger was also asked about Rooney during his pre-match press conference ahead of Arsenal's clash with the Toffees on Sunday.
And the Frenchman said the 31-year-old should be open to heading back to Goodison Park.

Asked about Rooney moving to Everton, Wenger said: "Why not? Why not, it's possible. He started there.
"First of all he's under contract at Manchester United. I don't know if he wants to come back to Everton. He has a decision to make.
"Will he finish his carrier at Manchester United or will he go to Everton?"
