Morrison praised by coach
Peter Grant reckons he can pinpoint the moment James Morrison “arrived” as a Scotland star.
The West Brom coach has always known the 22-year-old had the ability and quality to make it at international level.
But he was concerned the midfielder, left, wasn’t quite gallus enough.
Then he looked on from the Hampden stand on Wednesday as Darlington-born Morrison shoved experienced players out of the way to take a second-half free-kick against Iceland and knew all his encouragement was paying off.
Grant laughed: “The problem for James is he’s not a Glaswegian so therefore he’s not gallus enough. Sometimes I’ve wished he had a little bit more arrogance so when he grabbed the ball for that free-kick I was delighted. That was a great moment for me.
“I think he really arrived as a Scotland star there and then.
“He’s probably been our top player this season and hasn’t looked out of place against the Manchester Uniteds, Chelseas, Arsenals and the rest.”
