Zoe Ball 'can't stop thinking' about Steve Wright as she shares emotional tribute

BBC Radio 2 star Zoe Ball has admitted she can't get the late DJ Steve Wright out of her head as she shared an emotional tribute on Instagram.

Veteran BBC radio presenter Steve Wright dies aged 69

has shared a touching tribute to the late DJ, Steve Wright, who sadly passed away on February 12 at the age of 69. The much-loved star's death left his colleagues devastated when his family announced the news.

Zoe, 53, who hosts the Radio 2 Breakfast Show, was one of the first to honour him and has now taken to Instagram, revealing that Steve is still in her thoughts.

She posted a picture of the new Radio 2 studio, which boasts a stunning view of London's skyline, and wrote: "New studio, what a view @bbcradio2 #morning. Can't stop thinking about Wrighty," followed by a broken heart emoji."

Radio 2 listeners were moved to tears as Steve's Sunday Love Songs returned to air at the weekend, just days after the presenter's sudden passing. The legendary DJ's friend, Liza Tarbuck, took over hosting the episode and invited fans to share their memories of the veteran broadcaster.

Listeners were deeply touched by the tribute, with one commenting on X: "I'm not a big radio listener, but my parents are and Sunday love songs was a regular feature in the house/car when I was growing so listening to the tribute show is emosh." Another added: "Listening to the tributes pour in for Steve Wright and I'm gone."

The cause of Steve's death has not been revealed, but police have stated that the incident is "not being treated as suspicious". Mark Wells, the former head of ITV Entertainment, shared that the beloved broadcaster had a secret surgery before his passing and was "more ill than he let on".

On Colin Edmonds' podcast Behind The Scenes, Mr Wells spoke about his late friend: "Steve had a heart operation about 15months ago.

He had a bypass operation that had gone well...and I think he was more ill than he was letting on. The recovery had gone pretty well but the events of the last couple of days was probably what in the end came for him."

Earlier this week, Steve's son Tom shared that he had travelled from Los Angeles to London to look after his dad in his final weeks. Tom expressed gratitude for getting to know his dad in a way he 'never had before' as they spent time together before his passing.

After hearing about the DJ's death, Zoe told her fans: "Wrighty. Our Radio friend, our inspiration, master of broadcasting, the Godfather, a dear friend, always there for us all with support, advice and love and most importantly laughter. Rest well you wonderful magic man.

"Life won't be the same without you here. Love you my friend my hero x." She added: "Thoughts to Steve's family, his beloved listeners, Tim, Jayney, Bobbi and his team."
