Inside Adele's health battles: From painful spine condition to surgery

Adele recently announced that she has to postpone all of the March dates of her Las Vegas residency under ‘doctors orders', but this is not the first time her health has gotten in the way of her performing.

Just days after announcing that she had been put on “vocal rest,” Adele shared that the damage to her voice was so severe that she was being forced to postpone all 10 of her residency shows scheduled for March.

The Someone Like You crooner is set to wrap her Las Vegas residency up in June – a gig that is reportedly earning her over £1.5 million per show.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that Adele’s health struggles have forced her to cancel shows.

Back in 2011, it was her vocal cords causing a problem again.

She had to undergo “vocal cord microsurgery” to remove a benign polyp under the “advice of her doctor and voice therapist.”

At the time, Adele spoke up about her decision to undergo surgery even though it forced her to cancel a series of shows.

“If I continue to pick up everything before I have properly conquered these problems and nipped them in the bud, I will be totally and utterly f****d,” she wrote on Instagram.

“Singing is literally my life, it's my hobby, my love, my freedom and now my job.”

Her tricky vocal cords struck again in 2017, forcing her to cancel her homecoming shows at Wembley Stadium in London.

“On medical advice I simply am unable to perform over the weekend,” she wrote on Facebook, “To say I'm heartbroken would be a complete understatement.”

Despite promises, ticket holders never received “first priority” on her next tour.

Adele told fans that she had collapsed backstage in August of 2023 due to a sciatica attack.

The attack eventually led her to perform while sitting down.

In early 2024, Adele opened up to the crowd at her Las Vegas show that her chronic back pain due to sciatica was causing her to have to “waddle these days.”

“I have to waddle these days because I have really bad sciatica,” she said addressing the fans in attendance.

Announcing that she was postponing her March dates on Instagram, Adele told her fans, "I love you, I’ll miss you like mad and I’m sorry for the inconvenience," in the caption.
