EXCLUSIVE: William talked about his dad, then-Prince Charles, spending more time with his kids. And, now he is.

Prince William spoke candidly about King Charles not spending enough time with his children in the 2018 documentary Prince Charles at 70, but since then things have changed.

Just recently, a royal insider suggested Charles, who just turned 75, has been going out of his way to be more involved, even stopping in Windsor on his way to Highgrove in Gloucestershire.

Daily Express reached out to Even the Royals podcast co-host Aricia Skidmore-Williams to ask about the change of heart, and whether William speaking up played a role in Charles spending more time with his grandchildren.

Skidmore-Williams credits it to both William and society as a whole.

Daily Express spoke to Skidmore-Williams about William opening up in the documentary, and she said: “I could see it creating change.”

She added: “I think overall the narrative of fathers being with their children has shifted over the past half century for the better and whenever those in the public eye model behavior like that, I think it’s great.”

She talks about why it may be hard to open up, but once it does happen, it can be helpful. She said: “I do understand that there is a precedent for being very circumspect, but I think in this day and age especially, it’s far more beneficial to be more open.”

Skidmore-Williams believes opening up makes the royals more relatable. She added: “A common complaint about royals is them being out of touch, and I think by speaking more candidly, it allows the public to connect with them.”

In the 1994 documentary Charles: The Private Man, the Public Role, Charles talked about being a dad, saying: "As they get older, the more things perhaps they, being boys, can do with their father. That's obviously more and more enjoyable. But I've always mucked around with them a great deal.”

“Charles wants to spend more time with his grandchildren,” says a royal insider.
