A remarkably ordinary-looking apartment has been revealed to be among the most expensive properties sold in Britain in 2023. From the outside, punters would be stunned to hear they were standing next to one of Zoopla’s top ten most lucrative sales of the year.

Nevertheless, the faded brick facade with no balconies or special features does indeed conceal a magical interior with a number of features that will make you squirm with jealousy. Located on one of the most “prestigious streets” of the country, the flat will truly blow your mind.

Selling for £12.5m, this third floor apartment boasts “bespoke European oak veneered internal doors”, as well as an electric underfloor heating system beneath some exquisite Italian marble flooring. If that was a good start, then the new owners can also protect their belongings with the state-of-the-art video entry and security systems.

The hefty price tag owes much of its weight to the prime location of the property. Situated in Westminster, the lucky residents can wander over to the window and gaze out at the beautiful St James’s Park - the oldest Royal Park in the capital.

It was also home to one of Britain’s most famous politicians in history. A blue plaque is pinned to the exterior, in dedication to the popular Lord Palmerston, who was twice Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in the mid-19th Century.

He made it into the top office in 1855, and was initially a Tory earlier in his career, and then a Liberal politician, before his defection to the Whigs, under which he became the UK’s top dog. He was ousted in the 1858 election by The Earl of Derby, but he only lasted just over a year, before Mr Palmerston was reinstated for a further six years.

A popular foreign policy master, he was born in the property, which is located on Queen Anne’s Gate, just around the corner from Westminster Palace. The average sold price on the street is £12.65 million, about 10 times the average property price in the general Westminster area, which is closer to a (still huge) £1,780,800

The residents can enjoy a brisk walk to a vast range of attractions, including Buckingham Palace, Churchill’s War Rooms, The Green Park and Tate Britain.
