Storm Jocelyn weather warnings: Met Office issues fresh 14-hour 'danger to life' alert

Hot on the heels of deadly Storm Isha, Jocelyn is now hurtling towards Britain at pace with more amber weather warnings now activated by the Met Office.

Met Office forecasts more wet and windy weather across UK

A newly-named Storm Jocelyn is tipped to bring absolute chaos to the UK in hours - before the country has even recovered from the last. Storm Isha battered Britain this weekend, with violent winds peaking overnight.

But now the Met Office has named a brand new storm - Jocelyn - and she's on her way to create more havoc for the UK from Tuesday.

"A spell of strong winds associated with Storm Jocelyn is expected to affect western and northern Scotland from Tuesday evening," the forecaster said.

Amid the 14 hour warning, in place from 6pm on Tuesday until 8am on Wednesday, people are warned of more blackouts, disruption to rail, ferry, bus and air services, and a danger to life risk from flying debris.

There are still scores of people across the country without power, which was knocked out by Isha over the last 24 hours. But the Met Office is now detailing the track of a repeat performance - albeit with some slightly weaker wind gusts.

It says: "A spell of strong west or southwesterly winds associated with Storm Jocelyn is expected to affect parts of western and northern Scotland during Tuesday evening and night.

"Winds are likely to gust 55-65 mph quite widely while there is potential for gusts of 75 to 80 mph in a few places, in particular exposed parts of the Western Isles and coastal northern Scotland. Winds will slowly ease from the west during Wednesday morning."

Storm Isha's top recorded wind speed was 99mph at Brizlee Wood in Northumberland.

The majority of the UK will sit under a yellow weather warning from noon on Tuesday until 3pm on Wednesday. The warning, despite it not being as severe, urges people to take care on the roads.

There is also likely set to be strong winds battering coastlines, delays for high-sided vehicles, and cancellations and disruption to the public transport sector.

The Met Office says: "A spell of strong winds associated with Storm Jocelyn is expected to develop across this region during Tuesday afternoon, peaking overnight into Wednesday morning, before easing across most areas by midday.

"However, winds are likely to remain strong across and just to the east of the Pennines until early Wednesday afternoon. Peak gusts of 45-55mph are likely inland, perhaps 65mph on some exposed coasts."
