An American blogger living in the UK has listed a series of appliances Brits keep in their kitchens which would surprise people from her native country.

TikTok user @laurens.little.library uploaded a video of her house and garnered several comments from the online community as she gave them a tour of the place.

Her lengthy caption said: “All the things in my UK house that would put Americans into a coma. You have to remember that for most UK residents, houses are really old."

She also noted a huge size difference, and added: "And [they are] very small in comparison to the houses in Canada and USA. Keep in mind that I tried to capture the average UK house.

"Obviously, there are people in the UK who do have a laundry room. Some people are lucky and have washer/dryer combos. My point is there aren’t any hard and fast rules. “

The one-minute-long video begins with a series of comments as people expressed their shock after finding a washing machine inside the kitchen, something fairly commonly seen in an average UK home.

@laurens.little.library Replying to @Brittany All the things in my UK house that would put Americans into a coma. You have to remember that for most UK residents, our houses are old. Really, really old. And very small in comparison to the average house in the USA and Canada. Keep in mind that I tried to capture the average UK house. Obviously, there are people in the UK who do have a laundry room (though it’s probably called a mud room and it probably has a raised bath to bathe dogs named Bartholemew). Some people are lucky and have washer/dryer combos. My point is, these aren’t hard and fast rules. #expat #moveabroad #expatlife #americanintheuk #canadianintheuk #canadianinengland #americaninengland #england #greatbritain #englishtiktok #unitedkingdom ♬ Monkeyshine-JP - Lt FitzGibbons Men

One of the comments on the video read: “The washing machine is in the kitchen. Why?” Another read: “Totally off the topic, but why is your washer inside the kitchen?”

The video which has more than 3,800 comments shows other things like UK houses having radiators while properties in the USA mostly have central heating systems. It also highlighted how houses in Britain don't necessarily come with built-in wardrobes.

And not every house has a garage. However, many people also disagreed with the social media user. One user said: “British person here living with a utility that has a tumble dryer, central heating, a garage, double fridge freezer and a built-in wardrobe.”

Another user commented: “This is a really inaccurate representation of the UK. I have had all of these things at one point or another. It’s personal choice most of the time.”
