GERS WANT RADZINSKI

Thomas Radzinski could be heading to Ibrox

Sunday July 1,2007

RANGERS are set for a shock move for freed Fulham striker Tomasz Radzinski.

And as the Ibrox management reluctantly accept they have lost out to West Ham in the race for Bordeaux star Julien Faubert, boss Walter Smith will try and boost his squad further with a move for former Hearts midfielder Julien Brellier.

Gers are also continuing to wait for developments on Kilmarnock’s Steven Naismith and Lee McCulloch of Wigan, as Smith desperately tries to get his new-look squad together before he heads for a week-long stint in Germany.

Polish-born striker Radzinski, 33, is a Canadian internationalist and was signed by Smith once previously.

Smith paid Anderlecht £4million to take him to Everton when he was Goodison manager, and Radzinski later moved on to Fulham for a further £1.75m.

Since starting his career at the top level at Germinal Ekeren in Belgium the hitman has a good goals record.

He scored 40 in just over 100 appearances for the Belgians, 57 in 90 games for Anderlecht – including five Champions League strikes – and then managed 25 in 91 Premiership matches for Everton.

At Craven Cottage the goals dried up a bit – just 10 from 100 games – though he was seldom the mainline striker for manager Chris Coleman.

And Brellier is back on the Gers’ hitlist following last night’s news that West Ham are poised to snatch Faubert for a staggering £9m. Bordeaux played serious hardball with Rangers and will pocket at least three or four million more than Gers were prepared to pay.

And last night the player's agent, Phillipe Sol, admitted: “Julien was summoned to a meeting with president Jean Louis Triaud on Friday night and told of West Ham’s offer. “It was substantially more than the cash on the table from Rangers and Julien was given an ultimatum – West Ham or nowhere.

“Bordeaux were no longer interested in talking with Rangers. Julien wanted to go to Ibrox and had given them his word but there was nothing he could do about the transfer fee.”
