Death in Paradise: Neville says goodbye to Florence

fans were left fuming over Neville Parker's (played by ) future following Sunday night's cliffhanger episode. The instalment also saw the return of fan favourite Florence Cassell (Josephine Jobert) - who helped Neville and the team solve the murder of a holidaymaker.

Darlene Curtis (Jinny Holder) and Dwayne Myers (Danny John-Jules) travelled over to Saint Auguste following the death of Abigail (Eve Ponsonby). However, just as they arrived, they bumped into Florence who offered to help them with the case.

Florence assessed the scene but didn’t agree with the local doctor that this was an accidental death. Dusting off her detective skills, Florence delved deep into the case, and when stories of the group’s school days rear their head, it's clear any one of them could have reason to want Abigail gone.

Meanwhile, back in Saint Marie, DI Neville Parker prepared to leave the island for the travelling trip of a lifetime, when Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) delivered the news that Florence was heading back home.

Fans took to X to share their thoughts and theories, but many were left frustrated that the episode ended on a cliffhanger - and whether Neville really got on the plane or not.

"Wait, is Ralf Little really leaving?! #DeathInParadise," a third asked.

A fourth pleaded: "Noooo don’t end it like that #DeathInParadise."

"What???? Nooooo you can't leave it there #DeathInParadise," a fifth agreed.

"DID HE GET ON THE PLANE? #DeathInParadise," someone else quizzed.

While one raged: "NAHHHHH WHATTTT I CAN'T DEAL WITH THIS #DeathInParadiseSo, was he on that plane when it took off ?!? That is the question #DeathInParadise."

The end of the episode ended on a cliffhanger and saw Neville at the airport about to board a plane.

Although just before that, he managed to say farewell to Florence over a video call.

"Hey, how did you get on?" Neville asked as Florence replied: "Yeah, good we made the arrest. I couldn't have done it without you."

Neville went on: "I am at the airport, I just had my leaving drinks. The Commissioner made a little speech, broadly complimentary, it's the nicest he's ever been to me. The only thing missing was you."

"I am sorry," Florence replied as Neville interrupted: "No need to apologise, not your fault."

"Well that is me, I better go catch my flight," he added. "It was lovely to see you, Florence even if it was just on a screen."

However, will the need and desire to leave the island be strong enough, or will the love-struck DI be tempted to stay...?

Death in Paradise returns on Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.
