Bridgerton fans could soon see more LGBTQI+ characters on screen as the show continues on air on Netflix.

The popular drama saw a major shift after Jess Brownell stepped up as showrunner to replace creator Chris Van Dusen in 2022.

Along with an exciting new storyline for season three, the boss opened up about the future of the series and its romantic twists and turns.

“This is a show about love in its many forms, and I think that it’s only right for us to foreground queer love and to tell queer stories

In a recent interview with Pride, Jess added: “I want to see more queer joy on my screens, and that was definitely a priority for me when I stepped into the showrunner role.”

Despite this, the showrunner remained tight-lipped about which characters could have a sweet queer love story,

Jess continued: “How exactly that plays out over this season and the next couple seasons, I can’t say specifically, but I will say I’m excited for fans to see that.”

Members of the cast are also eager to see more queer romance on screens as Penelope Featherington star Nicola Coughlan revealed her excitement for it.

“I’m desperate for it. I cannot wait. I think it will be so beautiful,” she told the outlet.

“The wonderful thing about Bridgerton is it’s an invented world that has never existed.”

Coughlan continued: “It’s a Regency London in which we wear all these mad bright colors, it’s really diverse, there’s glitter eyeshadow.

“So I think there’s so much space there for queer love stories and I think all love stories deserve to be celebrated.”

“I hope that in time we get a leading queer love story in this show,” the actress added.
