could help revitalise career if he is given the job at Old Trafford. The German coach has been touted as replacement following United’s embarrassing FA Cup showing against Coventry City.

It was a weekend of contrasting emotions for Ten Hag. Despite guiding United to back-to-back FA Cup finals - his third cup final in two seasons - talk about Ten Hag’s exit continues to grow. The Red Devils surrendered a 3-0 lead against the Championship outfit, before being saved by VAR in extra time and winning the tie on penalties.

Having already been on thin ice, there is talk that and the INEOS Group will part ways with Ten Hag in the summer, with Tuchel mooted as a potential replacement. Reports from German outlet Kicker suggest the current Bayern Munich boss is fancied by Ratcliffe, who could offer Tuchel a route back to the Premier League.

Tuchel spent one-and-a-half years at the capital club, with his crowning achievement being the Blues’ 2021 Champions League win. One of the standout players during their run to the final was Mount, with the Portsmouth-born ace playing in all but two of Chelsea’s Champions League games.

What’s more, Mount - who joined United for £55million in the summer - provided the assist for Kai Havertz’s winning goal against Manchester City in the final. However, since leaving Stamford Bridge for United, the Englishman has failed to make the desired impact.

A reunion with former boss Tuchel could be what Mount needs to kick-start his United career, given how well he’s performed under the ex-Borussia Dortmund man in the past. Speaking to Sky Sports about his role at Chelsea under Tuchel in December 2021, Mount said: “I am not content, I want to score more and more. It is a big part of my game and it means a lot to me.

“My first year or two I played in a bit of a deeper role as an eight. Now I am playing higher up as a 10-slash-winger so that gives me more opportunities to make it into the box. They want me in the box and being a threat going forward so that is a big focus of mine.

“I have seen that improvement in the last few games in terms of the chances I am getting now just from trying to get into the box. Having more touches in the opposition box shows it is working.”

Mount netted 19 times and assisted a further 19 goals during his 87 matches under Tuchel at Chelsea. The midfielder has scored just once in his 17 outings so far for United.
