wasn't expected to enjoy a smooth sailing first season at after his £72million transfer from Atalanta last summer. Although the young striker has shown signs of his potential, those concerns have come to fruition, and tensions have been high on and off the pitch.

Hojlund landed at Old Trafford as a raw talent with limited first-team football under his belt but the weight of the world on his shoulders.

The 21-year-old has produced promising numbers in his maiden campaign. He is United's joint-top goalscorer with a tally of 13 in all competitions, level with captain Bruno Fernandes.

However, his adaptation has contributed to a lack of goals, which has heavily contributed to Erik ten Hag's disappointing second year in charge.

Hojlund's early struggles reportedly led to a two-on-one row with Fernandes and his Portuguese compatriot, Diogo Dalot—an indicator of the issues in the United dressing room.

According to the Mail, earlier in the season, Hojlund grew increasingly irked by his lack of service. He reached boiling point when he complained that Fernandes wasn't passing to him enough.

Later, the Denmark international engaged in a spat with Dalot during United's 4-3 defeat at FC Copenhagen in November that edged Ten Hag's side closer to an embarrassing Group A exit.

The duo were said to have fallen out after Lukas Lerager equalised for the hosts. Roony Bardghji scored a late winner moments later, which wouldn't have calmed tensions.

Potentially mindful of Hojlund's previous issues, Fernandes reportedly sided with Dalot rather than the United new boy rather than attempting to squash the ill feeling.

The report adds that after Hojlund approached the coaching staff with his concerns, he was told to clear the air with Dalot directly.

Fernandes is said to have not shaken hands with Hojlund until he settled his differences with the United right-back, eventually creating peace between the trio.

The No. 11's arrival also seemingly ruffled feathers elsewhere in the squad as part of worries about Ten Hag's recruitment in general.

In December, claimed an unnamed United player had been left perplexed by the decision to splash £72m to sign Hojlund after Harry Kane was the club's first-choice target.

However, as far as debut seasons go, Hojlund's certainly hasn't been the worst in recent years. He has received little on-field support from his fellow attackers on top of his adversity away from the cameras.

Moments like becoming the youngest player in Premier League history to score in six consecutive games provide optimism that the foundations of a positive United career are being laid.
