Liverpool team news: Predicted XI vs Everton as injury forces Jurgen Klopp rethink

Liverpool will be without the injured Diogo Jota against Everton at Goodison Park.

Klopp previews final Merseyside derby as Liverpool boss

head to Goodison Park tonight (8pm) in need of only their third win away at under to remain in the Premier League title race but will be without Diogo Jota due to yet another injury. The Reds have drawn five of their previous seven trips across Stanley Park under the manager who will leave next month with four of them ending 0-0. As Klopp faces a rethink without Jota, Express Sport looks at how Liverpool could line up...

Goalkeeper - Alisson

Despite keeping a clean sheet away at Atalanta in the Europa League, Alisson has conceded in both of his Premier League appearances since returning from injury. Due to his lay-off, he has not kept a shut-out in the league since January 21.

The Brazilian will be desperate to keep one here. He has not conceded in any of his last four outings against the Toffees, with the last goal he conceded to Liverpool’s neighbours coming in January 2021 when Demarai Gray netted.

Defence - Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson

Liverpool’s backline for the final matches of the season now feels settled. Trent Alexander-Arnold reminded everyone of his sensational ability with the ball at his feet in open play and at set-pieces at Fulham on Sunday. He will start again.

So too will captain Virgil van Dijk and left-back Andy Robertson. Jarell Quansah will count himself unfortunate to drop to the bench after the win over Fulham but Ibrahima Konate is likely to be asked to battle the physicality of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Midfield - Endo, Mac Allister, Jones

Wataru Endo looked less leggy last time out and should anchor the midfield at Goodison. Though a goal was good for Ryan Gravenberch’s confidence and Harvey Elliott provides much-needed energy, both could be dropped.

Alexis Mac Allister is almost guaranteed to start after being rested at Craven Cottage. The Argentine has tired recently but was very recently Liverpool's most important player. Dominik Szoboszlai needs to raise his game on the ball so Curtis Jones might be asked to provide more security in possession.

Attack - Salah, Gakpo, Diaz

Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez were only substitutes at Fulham and if Jota was fit here, Klopp might've been tempted to bench them both again. Salah has been well below his usual standards since his return from injury.

But without the 15-goal Jota due to his third lay-off of a niggle-riddled campaign, Salah is a certainty to start. Gakpo could be preferred as the No.9 over the profligate Nunez who has also been disappointing of late. Luis Diaz will start from the left.

Predicted Liverpool XI vs Everton in full: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Endo, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Salah, Gakpo, Diaz

Potential Liverpool bench: Kelleher, Tsimikas, Quansah, Gomez, Jones, Gravenberch, Elliott, Danns, Nunez
