Runners will participate in the London Marathon today with all four categories scheduled to begin their races this morning. The annual event sees participants run a 26.2-mile route through London. Express Sport brings you all the details you need to know for the day.
When does the London Marathon start?
There are four main categories of runners for the London Marathon: Elite wheelchair, elite women’s, elite men’s and the masses. The wheelchair participants begin first with the women starting afterwards. The men’s and masses’ races begin at the same time.
The exact timings for the start of the London Marathon are as follows:
9:05am – Elite wheelchair race
9:25am – Elite women
10am – Elite men/mass start
How to watch the London Marathon
The BBC will have coverage of the London Marathon throughout the day across its various platforms, including BBC One and Two. The timings of the programmes are as follows:
BBC One/iPlayer: 8:30am – 2pm
BBC Two/iPlayer: 2pm – 3pm
BBC iPlayer: 11:30am – 6pm
What is the London Marathon route?
The London Marathon route has largely remained unchanged since the inaugural event in 1981. Runners will embark on the 26.2-mile journey from Greenwich Park to The Mall, taking in some of the capital’s best-known landmarks.

Who is running in the London Marathon?
Professional athletes, celebrities and amateur runners will join forces to run the London Marathon. In the women’s race, there will be 20 athletes including Becky Briggs and Alice Wright, who competed in the 2022 European Athletics Championships.
Ethiopia's new world record holder Tigst Assefa and 2020 London Marathon champion Yalemzerf Yehualaw will run again.
In the men's race, Emile Cairess returns after becoming the third-fastest Briton on his London Marathon debut last year. He is joined by Callum Hawkins, who finished fourth at the World Championships.
Among the masses, several celebrities have been gearing up for the event. Comedian Romesh Ranganathan, actor Ruth Wilson and Ted Lasso star Phil Dunster will be making their marathon debuts.
