May is one of the most tempting times of year to book a holiday. With the two bank holidays, warm but not boiling weather and fewer crowds than summer, it’s the perfect time of year to explore Europe.

But where are the cheapest destinations to fly to?

In an exclusive experiment for Express.co.uk, I searched Skyscanner for the cheapest destinations to fly to in May.

Bear in mind that these prices are for only and may not include or seat selection fees.

From a sunny beach destination to a bargain alternative to Amsterdam, there are some great budget options on offer.

Malaga, Spain

I found return flights to Malaga for £29 per person from London, £37 per person from Cardiff and under £50 from Bournemouth, Birmingham and Liverpool.

Malaga is the capital of Spain’s sunny Costa del Sol and the gateway to some of the country’s best beach resorts.

But don’t ignore the city centre. Malaga’s Cathedral is well worth exploring while the Picasso Museum is a stylish way to spend an afternoon.

Eindhoven, Netherlands

I found return flights to Manchester and London for £26. The Dutch city is in the south of the Netherlands and it’s a fantastic budget alternative to a weekend in Amsterdam.

Stratumseind is the city’s famous pub street with more than 50 bars and restaurants to choose between. The city is at the forefront of Dutch design while you’ll find modern art at the Van Abbemuseum.

By train, you can travel to Rotterdam in just over an hour while it’s also easy to cross over the Belgian border.

Pisa, Italy

I found return flights to Pisa for under £50 from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

World-famous for its iconic Leaning Tower, Pisa has more worth exploring. Visit the Duomo di Pisa or go for a stroll along the river.

Don’t miss out on a plate of spaghetti con le arselle, the city’s famous pasta dish with clams.

Holidaymakers can compare and find the cheapest flights on Skyscanner.
