Prince Harry and have officially touched down in Nigeria for the start of their 72-hour visit following their brief reunion at Heathrow.

The Duchess of Sussex landed in London to meet up with her husband before they travelled on to the West African country together on a British Airways overnight flight to the capital Abuja.

This comes hot on the heels of Harry's brief yet highly anticipated two-day visit to the UK, however he failed to meet up with any members of the while he was here.

The Duke of Sussex arrived in his homeland on Tuesday, May 7 and got straight to work as he prepared to mark the Invictus Games 10th anniversary. But just hours after he arrived, a spokesman for the Sussexes confirmed Harry and King Charles had not been able to secure a time and date to meet.

It had been blamed on the King's full schedule - which is once again full with public duties after he resumed a more fulsome diary having taken a step back to begin cancer treatment.

Harry came to Britain alone, and marked the decade occasion of the Games without the support of senior royals who were just two miles away at Buckingham Palace's first garden party of the season.

Despite his solo visit, the Duke was met with cheers as he arrived at St Paul's Cathedral on May 8 where the special service took place.

It was initially thought that Meghan had snubbed a potential visit to the UK, however she landed in the capital from Los Angeles on Thursday for a brief stint before reuniting with Harry, although it is not known if she ever left Heathrow.

According to the Daily Mail Meghan waited for Harry at the airport's luxury Windsor Suite before they boarded the plane, although there was a slight delay as the scheduled pilot fell ill and a replacement had to be found.

The couple were seated in the First Class section of the Boeing 777 and were kept apart from other passengers by a curtain, with other travellers also being kept back while they exited the plane in Abuja.

Meghan was wearing black trousers and a brown jacket, while Harry walked behind in a black jacket and trousers and open necked shirt as their luggage was carried by aides.

It is thought they are staying in the city's Transcorp Hotel, close to the Nigerian Defence Headquarters where their first engagement will be held at 12pm.

Brigadier General Tukur Gusau told MailOnline: "They will be tired after their journey, so they will rest and then the first engagement is at midday at the Defence Headquarters.

"After that they will travel to Kaduna to meet wounded soldiers at a military hospital there before returning to Abuja for other engagements."
